As a local family business, we work hard everyday to serve our community. Our goal is to offer fair and reasonable monthly rates on storage units for the amenities that we offer. We honestly take extra care with facility upkeep, trash cleanup, maintenance and cleanliness to help our customers feel comfortable while onsite and so they know their items are well taken care of. We are local and available any day if a customer has a question or may need our help.
Some customers may ask, “Will my rental rate change?”
Many other storage companies are starting to offer super low introductory rates to lure customers to choose them. After 3 or 4 months, they will not only increase the rental rate, but they hike up the rate substantially. For example, If they offer a 10x10 at only $49/month online but their normal rate is $100, after 3 or 4 months the new customers rate may jump from $49 to $99 on the third month and then $135 on the 6th month. This practice is incredibly frustrating for customers storing their items and also for local storage owners who take pride in offering a quality service and hope to give a great customer experience when someone decides to store their items. For us, the price you see is the price you get. If there is a rate change, it is usually small and reasonable, like $5 or $10 once a year. Not at all like the larger rate hikes that other operators are doing. Our business expenses like insurance, property taxes and utilities do go up every year, so we do need to make occasional rate changes, but we usually guarantee a customer’s rate to stay the same for about a year.
We believe that people are more important than the items that are stored with us. We also believe in the Golden Rule that says to “do to others as you would like them to do to you.” We have served our local Rockford community for 30 years with storage. We have found that if you treat people right and are helpful, many times if they need storage again years later, or if they have a friend or family member who needs storage, they are quick to recommend and choose us again because of the great experience they had. Carol Ruhf - Manager
Carol has been a vital part of our team for over 17 years now. We like to call her the real "Boss" and “Queen” around the office. Carol goes above and beyond showing genuine care and hospitality in serving our local community. She keeps our boat afloat and our office organized. Without her, we just don't know what we would do. You’re amazing Carol!
Zach Nichols
Zach, also knowns as “Superman,” has many superpowers and wears many hats. Zach helps with renting units, serving customers, photography, public relations, websites, marketing, construction, maintenance, snowplowing, etc. etc. etc. Zach naturally is quick to serve when connecting with our customers and willing to help in anyway needed. We are so thankful for Zach and grateful to have him a part of the team.
Phil Cronin - Director of Construction and Facility Care
Phil joined our team in Fall of 2022. He is the head of all present and future construction projects. He will also oversee facility maintenance to help us continue to offer secure and well kept sites for our customers. Phil has a heart of servanthood and utilizes his hands to bless others with his God given gifts of building. Rockford Self Storage is blessed to have you. We are thrilled you are with us!
Jordan DeGraaf - Owner/General Manager
Jordan helps ensure that each of our customers has a fantastic experience storing with us. Jordan’s goal is to make sure team has what they need to succeed everyday in serving our customers. He wears many hats, and he is usually around, but if you don't find him in the office he is probably surfing in Lake Michigan or mountain biking in the woods.
Mike DeGraaf Owner/Founder
Mike is the visionary behind Rockford Self Storage. Accompanied with the Lord’s provision, Mikes "go-getter" mentality and his determination to see a plan come together is how Rockford Self Storage has continued to grow over the years to serve the Rockford community. When he's not hard at work, he's usually fleeing to warmer weather. He enjoys scuba diving, working on cars, and boating with friends.
Roger DeGraaf
Owner/Founder
Roger assisted Mike at the beginning. He was always a cheerful, wonderful man full of enthusiasm and wisdom in conversation. His two hands helped build and expand our first storage site near Bostwick Lake into what Rockford Self Storage is today. His legacy lives on and it is always a pleasant surprise to see his wife Pokey stop by. In his last years he enjoyed bird watching, music, attending church and spending time with his big family.
